Marin Society of Artists - California Dreamin
I’ve known Cailfornia in many different ways. Being born in San Francisco meant I always had an anchor, something to be attached to on a fundamental level. Growing up overseas meant that I also saw California as the unattainable, something you imagined but couldn’t quite see in front of you.
Flying into SFO and driving over the Bay Bridge became a pilgrimage to something that felt like home. Living in California teaches you how to see it for what it really is. It is idealized, is the the dream that burns, is submerged under water, and is full of cracks, its not the answer, its not the problem.
That novelty and reality are either clashing or giving space to each other, like lovers laughing or fighting. That space in between is California, and where I’ll always be.
